New recruit

Post by Rufus » Fri Nov 01, 2019 4:34 pm

From the club website:
The North Adelaide Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Billy Hartung for season 2020.

Billy, 24 years old, 177cm & 78kg, played 76 AFL games for Hawthorn (63 games) and the Kangaroos (13 games) between 2014-2018.

Billy is a natural midfielder who has elite endurance and good skills by hand and foot.

He is very professional in his preparation and he will complement our current list with his hard running style of play.

New Senior Coach had these words about the addition of Billy;
"Billy is a very professional young man who is driven to get the best out of himself and his football. Billy wants to improve all aspects of his game and will bring great versatility and leadership to our playing group. We are delighted to have him and his partner Bel joining our family here at the North Adelaide Football Club."

We would like to welcome Billy and his partner Bel to the Rooster family and look forward to watching him showcase his talents in the red and white in season 2020.

Good to see that the club is being active. Now for a ruckman!

Article on the SANFL website:
Billy brings his pace to Prospect

North Adelaide’s list rejuvenation continues to gather momentum with the prized signature of former Hawthorn and North Melbourne speedster Billy Hartung.

The pacy wingman, recognised for his ability to run and carry, joins former Roosters Andrew Moore (Box Hill), Kym Lebois (Carlton) and Cameron Hewett (Port Adelaide) in landing at Menzies Crescent.

Featuring in 76 AFL games for Hawthorn and North Melbourne between 2014 and 2018, Hartung is keen to play at the highest level possible as he looks to reignite his career at elite level.

After managing 63 games for the Hawks in four seasons, including the 2015 Preliminary Final win, the 24-year-old spent the 2018 AFL campaign with the Kangaroos, where he lined up in 13 matches.

Upon his delisting from Arden Street, Hartung played for St Bedes Mentone in the Victorian Amateur Football Association before transferring to St Kilda City for the season half of 2019.

North could yet welcome back another pair of former Roosters from the AFL in Robbie Young (St Kilda) and Harrison Wigg (Gold Coast) after their recent delisting.

Young, a classy contributor to the club’s 2018 Statewide Super League premiership, would add even more spice to the forward 50m with his elite speed while Wigg’s lethal left foot kick could cause plenty of damage off the half-back line.

Wigg, Young & a good ruckman would round off some good recruiting (good to see that we have sought out replacements for Tropiano & Thring with some quality midfielders).

From Big Phil on

Former Glenelg player Elliot Chalmers appears to be out doing a Pre Season with North Adelaide.

Roosters have also secured former Central Reserves coach and NT Thunder (NEAFL) senior coach Darren Reeves as their Seconds Coach.

Reeves will also be a part time Development Officer, taking over this role and the Reserves coaching from Jacob Surjan.

A good get for the Roosters and many Dogs players spoke highly of Darren, who forms strong relationships quickly.

Had he not got the NT Thunder job, that fell over after 1 year of a 2 year deal, he could have got the Dogs senior gig.

I guess Central's loss is North Adelaide's gain.

The North Adelaide Football Club would like to announce the signing of Elliot Chalmers and Sam Davis for season 2020.
Elliot and Sam were both at Glenelg in 2019 and will add different attributes to the Roosters squad.
Elliot Chalmers, 23 years old, is a running half back who can play through the midfield.
Elliot has a physical presence to his game which is complemented by his good foot skills and running capacity.
Sam Davis, 20 years old, is a tall rebounding defender who reads the play and kicks the ball well.
Sam played in the State Under 20 team in 2019 and he also has the ability to play through the midfield with his endurance at a good level for his size.
Senior Coach Jacob Surjan had the following words to say about Elliot and Sam’s arrival;
“Elliot comes with a winning mentality and a hunger to improve and get better. We are excited to see Elliot bring his personality and physical nature to both trainings and match day.”
“I coached Sam in the state Under 20’s program in 2019 and was impressed with his ability to kick the ball and defend his opponent. We think Sam has tremendous upside to his game and will add a lot of value to the playing group.”
We would like to welcome Elliot and Sam to the Rooster family and look forward to watching them represent the red and white in 2020.
